Ilango, our horseback riding guide, prepared some very interesting "water trail rides” for you, that will bring you to The Maqui River and The Ancient Atlantic Ocean Fossils where you will enjoy great views of the majestic Northern Icefield Glaciers.

Three nights/Four Days program

Day 1: When travelling to El Mirador de Guadal by car and from the direction of Balmaceda or Coyhaique, visit the unique Marble Caves when passing through Puerto Tranquilo, a village that is located at about an hour drive from El Mirador de Guadal. Arrival at the lodge and check in.

Day 2: The Maqui Waterfall. One of the most beautiful waterfalls in this area with spectacular views of the lake. This horseback ride takes you through the hills along the lake where you finally reach the base of the main waterfall and will have ample time to explore the area. You can either experience the full 'maqui' circuit tour with mixed habitats from Beech forests, rocky hills and meadows with lunch or do the shorter and crisp version, both providing you with spectacular views over the waterfall and lake. (The trip varies from 2-6 hours).

Day 3: The Hidden Mine, nestled uphill from Puerto Guadal, lies a copper and zinc mine in a beautiful beech forest. This mine was abandoned about 40 years ago. The horseback ride takes you through 'Campos' (Ranches) and forests until you reach the mine where you can explore its mystical premises, with remnants of huge machinery and various building structures still in place. Enjoy the beautiful views of Lake Carrera in the background. (This trip varies from 4-7 hours and lunch is optional).

Day 4: Departure after breakfast and end of program at El Mirador de Guadal.

You will find yourself riding through ancient Lengabeech Forests with cascading lichen (old man’s beard). By nightfall, we will camp under a blanket of stars where sometimes long tracts of the milky way are visible. Don't worry, we will have a warm bonfire to keep you going and we take care of all camping equipment, food and drinks. End the journey next day with the iconic and mouthwatering Patagonian barbecue (Optional).
